NeonCRM Directory Management System

Personalized settings tailored to user interests for streamlined directory creation and management.

Project Context

Overview

NeonCRM, a comprehensive customer relationship management (CRM) platform tailored for non-profit organizations, is undergoing a significant redesign initiative. The objective of this project is to enhance the user experience for frequent users, particularly current membership users, by streamlining the process of configuring listed directories within the system.

Through an in-depth understanding of user needs and behaviors, the project aims to optimize the directory configuration workflow within NeonCRM. Targeting users who are familiar with adding selective data into directories, akin to managing contacts in a personal address book, the redesign seeks to simplify and improve the overall user experience.

Project Duration:

August 11, 2016 - August 18th, 2016

Role:

UX Researcher

worked on an individual directory project for NeonCRM to re-design to allow users to search through a multiple directory or add membership directories into the system.

Tools:

  • Optimal Sort (Card sorting)

  • Balasmiq (wireframe design)

  • Heuristics Evaluation

Challenge

Enhance the navigation experience within configuration settings to ensure user clarity regarding the successful storage of their information.

Revamp menus, sort field boxes, configuration radio and checkboxes, edit/delete/mark as default buttons, and item selector field box for improved efficiency, aesthetics, and minimalism.

Solution

Goal: Design a more efficient, more aesthetic and minimalist design for the menus, sort field boxes, configuration radio and checkboxes, edit/delete/mark as default buttons, and the item selector field box

Measure: Compare and contrast the designs of other directory system settings sites to the NeonCRM membership directory configuration. Examine the hierarchy, text, and font.

Tasks

Project Brief

The client is a non-profit organization utilizing NeonCRM as their primary customer relationship management (CRM) platform. They serve a diverse community and rely heavily on NeonCRM to manage their membership database efficiently. As frequent users of the platform, their primary focus is on enhancing the user experience for current membership users, ensuring that they can easily configure listed directories according to their specific needs.

Understanding User Needs: Conduct a heuristic evaluation to assess the current design and infrastructure, pinpointing areas for enhancing user experience. Collect insights on user needs, behaviors, and pain points associated with configuring listed directories in NeonCRM.

  1. Analyzing Current Workflow: Observe and analyze how users currently navigate and interact with NeonCRM's directory configuration settings, identifying areas for improvement.

  2. Informing Redesign: Use research findings to inform the redesign of NeonCRM's listed directory configuration, focusing on enhancing usability, efficiency, and user satisfaction.

Current Design: Database Directory System

Current Design: The below slideshow shows the original database site for what users would access to create settings in the membership directory configuration.

The sketches for redesigning the membership configuration system. However, the purpose of the redesign was to show what methods would need to take place before establishing a set design meaning applying the user interface principles.

Research Method

Heuristic Evaluation

The heuristic evaluation aims to understand user interactions within the Member directory settings, focusing on actions like editing and deleting links. By identifying areas for improvement and enhancing user experience with relevant alerts and smoother flow after selecting fields, the evaluation guides efforts to create a more user-friendly and efficient platform.

Goal: Increase the effectiveness of the navigation of the configuration setting steps without the user confusion on whether or not their information is stored successfully

Measure: The Number of times the user is capable to successfully navigate through the setting field sections and boxes

Key Takeaways

User Feedback
Soliciting feedback from users about their experience with the current configuration settings can provide valuable insights into areas for improvement. This feedback can inform the redesign process and ensure that the new configuration meets users' evolving needs and expectations.

Usability Testing
Conducting usability testing with representative users can help identify usability issues and pain points in the existing configuration settings. Observing how users interact with the interface and gathering their feedback can guide refinements to enhance usability and user satisfaction.

Iterative Design
Adopting an iterative design approach allows for continuous refinement and improvement of the directory configuration settings. By iteratively testing and refining the design based on user feedback and usability testing results, the redesign can evolve to better meet users' needs and preferences over time.
